The Falcons have signed cornerback Dominique Franks and waived injured wide receiver Tim Toone.
Franks was considered a surprise cut after the Falcons released him when they shortened their roster from 75 to 53 players. The Falcons selected Franks in the fifth round (135th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. Last season he saw extended time while Grimes dealt with an injury, notching 20 tackles and two interceptions. For his short two-year career, Franks has totaled 22 tackles and three interceptions. Before Franks was released, he was in the mix for returner duties. After being re-signed, he’ll probably be in the mix once again.
Toone was originally drafted by the Detroit Lions in the seventh round (255th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft. He was the Mr. Irrelevant of that draft. Toone has yet to record any regular season game stats, but he played well this past preseason.
