On a night that saw the Falcons offense struggle, it was the defense that took over the game.

The Atlanta Falcons (11-1) defeated the New Orleans Saints (5-7) for the first time in four tries by a score of 23-13.

The Falcons defense intercepted Drew Brees five times – the first time in Brees’ career he’s thrown five interceptions. Brees was also held without a touchdown pass for the first time in 54 games.

Atlanta Falcons cornerback Asante Samuel is active tonight versus the New Orleans Saints. He was questionable with a shoulder injury.

Last week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Samuel favored the shoulder on several occasions. On the last play of the game, he appeared to hurt it further.

Saints Bus Egged in Atlanta

That’s how you welcome your hated rival to your city.

Several Saints players tweeted their charter bus was egged while the team was leaving Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Airport Wednesday night.

Backup quarterback Chase Daniels tweeted:

@ChaseDaniel: Wow, as we’re boarding buses on the Tarmac @ Atlanta airport, we start getting eggs thrown @ us by airport workers! Guess they do hate us!

Tight end Jimmy Graham tweeted something similar about the incident:

@JimmyGraham: Bus just got egged after landing in ATL by the ramp workers. Classy! “RISE Up” smh

Backup linebacker Will Herring confirmed the egging:

@wherring54 First time my bus has been egged by opposing fans! Tomorrow should be fun!! #WhoDatNation

Thursday night’s game just got a bit more interesting.

Atlanta Falcons vs. New Orleans Saints Preview

In Week 11, the New Orleans Saints ended the Atlanta Falcons’ undefeated run.

The Falcons look to avenge their only loss when they host the Saints in the Georgia Dome on Thursday Night Football.

Matt Ryan’s seemingly invulnerability at home is well-documented. Although he boasts a 31-4 record when playing on his home turf, two of those four losses have come at the hands of the Saints.

The Atlanta Falcons (10-1) love playing (and winning) close games. Including today’s game, seven of the last eight games have been decided by a touchdown or less; the Falcons are 6-1 in those match-ups.

Atlanta took a hot divisional foe in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-5) at Raymond James Stadium and came away with a 24-23 victory.

Atlanta Falcons at Tampa Bay Buccaneers Preview

After throwing five interceptions last week versus the Arizona Cardinals, Matt Ryan leads the Atlanta Falcons (9-1) into Raymond James Stadium to take on the surging Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-4) this Sunday.

Prior to last week, Ryan had never thrown more than three interceptions in a game. In fact, he’d only thrown three interceptions in a game twice.

Sean Weatherspoon Returns to Practice

It’s about time!

The defense has sorely missed the linebacker who injured his ankle in Week 8 against the Philadelphia Eagles. Since then, Weatherspoon missed three consecutive games.

The Falcons will need him to help slow down Tampa Bay’s rookie running back Doug Martin this Sunday.

On the season, Weatherspoon has totaled 52 tackles, three sacks, and one forced fumble.

Falcons Sign Guard Harland Gunn

The Atlanta Falcons announced they have signed guard Harland Gunn today.

Gunn was first signed as an undrafted free agent by the Dallas Cowboys following the 2012 NFL Draft. After he was waived, the New Orleans Saints signed him to their practice squad on September 2.

Gunn played college ball at The University of Miami.

Hawley Suspended Four Games

The Atlanta Falcons have announced center Joe Hawley has been suspended for four games by the NFL for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substance policy.

Hawley will be available for the match-up against the New York Giants on December 16.

He tested positive for Adderall – a substance banned since 2006.

I guess the positive to take from this is Matt Ryan won’t be tempted to throw passes Hawley’s way.
