The Atlanta Falcons have released Brian Banks, the recently exonerated linebacker who spent five years in jail for a rape he didn’t commit.

You’re not human if you weren’t pulling for Banks but the writing was on the wall when he appeared scarcely in the four preseason games. However, as the tweet above from Jay Glazer says, the Falcons pulled an extremely classy move by offering him some sort of position with the team. Quite frankly, Banks deserves it.

Also among the cuts: G Theo Goins, DT Neal Huynh, CB Terrence Johnson, S Charles Mitchell, DT Micanor Regis, T Alec Savoie, LB Pat Schiller, K Jeremy Shelley, CB Peyton Thompson, and RB Ronnie Wingo.

QB Sean Renfree and TE Andrew Szczerba were both placed on injured reserve.

The Falcons roster currently sits at 62. The team will need to cut down to 53 players by 6:00pm EST today.

I am glad that the two undrafted free agents have made the cut so far. It is sad to see Brian Banks be cut though. He was a very hard worker and had great leadership abilities. He had a very inspiring story. I wish him luck where ever he ends up!
