With the 4:00 p.m. EST free agency start time looming, the Atlanta Falcons brought a couple of their free agents back.

Defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux agreed to a three-year extension a couple of hours ago:

And center Joe Hawley agreed to a two-year deal:

Both are good signings for Atlanta. Babineaux has spent his entire career with the Falcons and has been an underrated, disruptive tackle.

Hawley played well once he usurped the starting gig from Peter Konz. The two centers will compete for the starting spot with Hawley the likely winner.

Falcons Re-Sign DT Corey Peters to One-Year Deal

The Atlanta Falcons have signed defensive tackle Corey Peters to a one-year deal.

Peters is coming off his best season – recording a career-high five sacks – but he suffered a torn Achilles tendon in Week 15 against the San Francisco 49ers last season.

His one-year deal is clearly a prove-it deal; if he performs as he did this past season, he’s going to be treated to a lucrative, multi-year contract.

Peters is the first of Atlanta’s free agents to be re-signed. The Falcons have also been in talks with defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux and center Joe Hawley.

Abraham, Babineaux Active

Atlanta Falcons defensive end John Abraham and defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux are both active for today’s NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers. They were listed as questionable throughout the week and were limited in practice.

Both players are integral to the defense, and if both were out, it  would have been detrimental.

Falcons Injury Report: Moore, Owens Out

The Atlanta Falcons Piedmont Healthcare Injury Report published on Friday lists two players as out for Sunday’s match-up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers: safety William Moore (hamstring) and cornerback Chris Owens (hamstring).

Four players are questionable: defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux (ribs), defensive end Cliff Matthews (hamstring), defensive tackle Corey Peters (knee), and wide receiver Roddy White (knee).

Babineaux and Peters both were limited in practice. After missing the first two practices, Matthews was limited in Friday’s practice.

White didn’t practice all week. I’d be surprised if he didn’t play, though.

Falcons Injury Report: Moore, White Questionable

The Atlanta Falcons Piedmont Healthcare Injury Report published on Friday lists four starters as questionable for tonight’s match-up against the Detroit Lions: defensive tackle Jonathan Babineaux (ribs), tackle Tyson Clabo (thigh), safety William Moore (hamstring), and wide receiver Roddy White (knee). Also listed as questionable are defensive end Cliff Matthews and cornerback Chris Owens – both are dealing with hamstring injuries.

Wide receiver Harry Douglas is listed as probable.

Matthews and Moore failed to practice all week. If Moore is unable to go, it will be the third consecutive game he’s missed.

The remaining players participated in practice and are likely to be available for tonight.

Falcons Injury Report: Moore, White Questionable

The Atlanta Falcons Piedmont Healthcare Injury Report published on Friday lists four players as questionable for Sunday’s game versus the New York Giants: defenisve tackle Jonathan Babineaux (quadricep), wide receiver Harry Douglas (ribs), safety William Moore (hamstring), and wide receiver Roddy White (knee).

Tackle Sam Baker (hand), guard Justin Blalock (elbow), and cornerback Asante Samuel (shoulder) are listed as probable.

Babineaux and Douglas were limited in practice, but Moore and White were held out of practice for the week.

White has never missed a game in his eight-year career, so I’m not worried about him missing Sunday’s game. He understands what’s at stake with this game.

On a night that saw the Falcons offense struggle, it was the defense that took over the game.

The Atlanta Falcons (11-1) defeated the New Orleans Saints (5-7) for the first time in four tries by a score of 23-13.

The Falcons defense intercepted Drew Brees five times – the first time in Brees’ career he’s thrown five interceptions. Brees was also held without a touchdown pass for the first time in 54 games.

Matt Ryan threw a career-high five interceptions, but the Falcons (9-1) still managed to defeat the Cardinals (4-6) by a score of 23-19.

Despite the five interceptions, he led the Falcons on the go-ahead touchdown drive with 6:40 remaining in the game. The drive was capped off by a one-yard touchdown run by Michael Turner, who showed that Atlanta is indeed capable of picking up a yard.
