The Atlanta Falcons haven’t won an outdoors road game since defeating the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24-23 on November 25, 2012.

That losing streak was extended with last Sunday’s 41-28 loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

This Sunday, the Falcons (2-2) go on the road once again to face the New York Giants, a team that has won two games in a row.

On paper, the Atlanta Falcons defense looked to be in for another huge day following the blowout win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Minnesota Vikings were starting a rookie quarterback and were without Adrian Peterson and tight end Kyle Rudolph. Heading into the game, Minnesota had one of the league’s worst offenses.

Osi Umenyiora Visits the Falcons

Osi Umenyiora would be a nice fit in Atlanta. (Bill Kostroun)

Former defensive end for the New York Giants Osi Umenyiora visited the Atlanta Falcons today, according to Mike Garafolo of USA Today via Twitter.

The signing would make sense for the Falcons. After releasing John Abraham, the Falcons have virtually no pass rushers on the roster. Umenyiora, 31, would immediately bolster the pass rush. For his career, Umenyiora has 75 sacks.

Roddy White and Umenyiora have already discussed playing together in Atlanta:

Divisional Round Preview: Atlanta Falcons Vs. Seattle Seahawks

Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons’ 0-3 record in the playoffs since 2008 is well-known and brought up aplenty. The pressure is on for the Falcons to get that playoff win.

Atlanta was bounced out of the playoffs in embarrassing fashion the last two years, losing 48-21 to the Green Bay Packers in 2010, and 24-2 to the New York Giants in 2011.

Falcons Make Statement, Blank Giants 34-0

Julio Jones had two scores on the day. (Rich Addicks)

In what was a statement game for both teams, the Atlanta Falcons imposed their will on the defending Super Bowl champions, shutting out the New York Giants 34-0.

It was the first time the Giants (8-6) had been shutout since 1996.

Matt Ryan threw three touchdowns in the Falcons’ win. Julio Jones caught two of those touchdowns, marking the first time this season the receiver has notched a touchdown reception at home.

Roddy White Active Vs. Giants

Roddy White has yet to miss a game in his eight-year career. (Kevin C. Cox)

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Roddy White will play today against the New York Giants.

It’s not surprising, really; White hasn’t missed a game in his career, and there’s no way he’d miss a game as big as this one.

Safety William Moore is inactive for the second straight week.

Atlanta Falcons Vs. New York Giants Preview

Sunday’s match-up with the New York Giants is a statement game for the Atlanta Falcons.

It’s a chance for the Falcons to avenge the 24-2 drubbing at MetLife Stadium in the wild-card round of last season’s playoffs.

It’s also a chance for the Falcons to prove they’re a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Last week’s ugly 30-20 loss at the hands of the Carolina Panthers planted (more) doubt in the heads of pundits, despite the Falcons’ 11-2 record.

A Rant About the 11-2 Atlanta Falcons

I understand the Atlanta Falcons are 11-2, have already won the NFC South, and are still in the driver’s seat for the top playoff seed.

I understand they’re a good, albeit flawed, team. But for this rant, I’m throwing perspective out the window.

As it stands, there are several areas of this team I’m worried about.
