The Atlanta Falcons came up short in their attempt to send Tony Gonzalez off with a win as they fell 21-20 to the Carolina Panthers.

Allowing Matt Ryan to be sacked nine times – four times by defensive end Greg Hardy, who posted a Panthers team single-game record – isn’t exactly a recipe for earning a victory.

The Atlanta Falcons could’ve just rolled over and given the San Francisco 49ers an easy victory in the last regular season game in Candlestick Park.

Instead, the Falcons put up a valiant fight – something that had been lacking for the majority of the season – in the 34-24 loss.

With 1:10 remaining in the game, NaVorro Bowman returned an interception 89 yards for a touchdown to secure the win for the 49ers.

Falcons Blow Double-Digit Lead in 22-21 Loss to Packers

Despite having a 21-10 lead heading into halftime, the Atlanta Falcons failed to score in the second half and lost 22-21 to the Green Bay Packers in Lambeau Field.

With :32 remaining in the first half, Falcons linebacker Sean Weatherspoon intercepted a Matt Flynn pass that was deflected off Paul Worrilow’s foot and rumbled 71 yards for the touchdown.

Monday night’s 30-28 loss to the New York Jets was the Falcons’ second consecutive loss at home. It was the first time in Matt Ryan’s career he’s lost back-to-back home games.

The Atlanta Falcons have to learn how to finish games. In each of the three games this season, the Falcons have held a double-digit lead. In two of those games, including last week against the Miami Dolphins, the Falcons lost.

And thus, the team sits at 1-2, and is preparing to face a 3-0 New England Patriots team.
